Our Telephone Recovery Support Services utilize a protected web based platform called RecoveryLink to provide secure chat, telephonic or video recovery support services.
TRSS is an innovative, peer-to-peer support service. Trained volunteers that are, in many cases, in recovery themselves, make weekly calls to “check in” and see how people are doing. Individuals and family members, or loved ones, are offered support; encouragement and information about resources that may help them maintain their recovery.
The beauty is in the simplicity. TRSS helps people stay in recovery. The connection of that phone call can make someone feel wanted, cared about and included. Dare, we say “loved”. When making the call, the volunteer will feel rewarded when they have spoken with someone. They share in joys and sorrows, triumphs and setbacks. They have the satisfaction of giving back, of making a difference. It’s a classic win-win scenario that builds trusting connections and support in recovery.
We know that our calls help people maintain their recovery and get them back on track if a setback occurs. When someone tells us they are struggling or have had a setback, we don’t kick them out of our program; we keep calling them, checking in with them, seeing if they want help. In some cases individuals and family members will have us call more often than weekly as we may be one of their only supports due to transportation, location and home situations. When someone is down, that’s when he or she needs the most support. SOS peer support is often the only encouraging voice heard at a critical junction on the road of their recovery. TRSS calls are made out of our Dover Recovery Community Center but are available regardless of where an individual or family member may be located, we’ve even had people relocate to other parts of the country and maintain our connection with them.
